Reuben Blaine Hanni(1928 - 2018)

Mr. Reuben Blaine Hanni, age 89, passed away at home on Sept. 10, 2018, in Anchorage, Alaska.
He was born on Dec. 16, 1928, in Moore, Idaho, and was one of five children born to Reuben and Florence Hanni. The U.S. Army sent him to Unalakleet on a mapmaking assignment in 1950, where he fell in love with Alaska. He loved the cool weather, fishing and hunting, and the beauty of the state. He met the love of his life, Darlene Glenn, at Brigham Young University and they married on June 13, l959, in the Los Angeles temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They had three children: Dawn, David and Kenneth. The family moved to Anchorage, Alaska, in 1970. Blaine had earned a master's and a doctorate degree in education, and taught at the University of Alaska until he retired after 20 years. Blaine and Darlene served a one year mission for their church in St. George, Utah, in 2000, where they spent 25 winters. Blaine served faithfully in the St. George and Anchorage temples for many years.
Blaine loved the Lord and counted his membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as the greatest blessing of his life. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather, and loved each member of his family with all of his heart. He was a friend to all that he knew, and people often spoke of his kindness and mild manner.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene; and his children, Dawn Hibbert (husband Kim) and Kenneth Hanni (wife Raquel); 10 grandchildren, Nancy, Michael, Jason, Sarah, Renee, Donna, Spencer, Jack, Brian and Annika; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Glenn, Joe, Marylin and Lee; and his son, David.
The funeral service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 8000 East 36th Avenue in Anchorage at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 17, 2018. There will be no viewing at the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that you take your family out to dinner, and remember the good times you had with Blaine. Bishop Stephen Bolan will officiate at the service. Pallbearers will be Ken Hanni, Kim Hibbert, Nancy Rapkoch, Michael Hibbert, Jason Hibbert, Sarah Collette and Karl Hanni.
