Calvin Gordon Lippert, 51, died on Jan. 17, 2018, after a year long battle with stage IV pancreatic cancer.
He was born on Aug. 1, 1966, in Duluth, Minn. Cal graduated from Proctor Senior High in Proctor, Minn., in 1985. He attended college at Vermillion Community College (Ely, Minn.); the University of Wyoming (Laramie, Wyo.); and Black Hills State University (Spearfish, S.D.). He married Dru Gillings on Sept. 17, 1994, and they moved to Anchorage, Alaska in 1996.
Cal loved history, especially that of the West and the mountain men. He was a lifetime lover of the great outdoors, and enjoyed guiding canoe trips in the Boundary Waters, fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, and had recently taken up running 5Ks. He collected and played Native American flutes and loved all things John Wayne.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Dru; and daughter, Dakota of Anchorage; by father, Robert; brother, Ken; and sister, Roberta of Duluth, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Cal was preceded in death by his mother, Juanita; and sister, Page Adler.
A celebration of life is planned in his honor to be held at the Alaska Zoo Gateway Building, 4731 O'Malley Road, Anchorage, AK 99507, on Feb. 17, 2018, from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. This is a potluck event. Attendees are invited to bring a dish to pass, photos to share and stories to tell. A second memorial will be held this summer in Duluth, Minn.
