Dale Lee Tennison (68) passed away January 29, 2012 at his home in Spokane, WA after a 10 month battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents Myron "Link" Tennison of Bucoda, WA and Betty Nelson of Petersburg, AK.

Dale was born July 9, 1943 in Olympia, WA. His family moved to Petersburg, AK when he was 7 years old and he attended school through his sophomore year. At that time he started working on "The Shirley", a purse seiner owned by Ray Thomason, helping with the fishing and doing the cooking. He loved any kind of fishing after that, and was a pretty good cook too. In 1965 he was in Juneau, AK, where he met and married his wife of 47 years, Donna Frankforter. He joined the International Union of Operating Engineers and worked road construction, eventually becoming a Project Manager/Superintendent, for 46 years. Dale had great management skills and was a real straight shooter. According to the people who worked for him, "Dale made work fun". He and his wife spent time on jobs in Alaska, Washington, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico and California; from Prudhoe Bay to the Mexican border. Dale liked to hunt and fish, but his favorite hobby was flying. He was an IFR private pilot and owned 4 airplanes during his lifetime. He was a kind and generous man, he might not give you the shirt off of his back, but he'd help you find a way to get your own. Dale was liked and respected by his friends and acquaintances, and much loved by his family. He will be deeply missed by his wife and surviving children, Mitchell Tennison of Seattle, WA and Chrystal Drury of Coeur d' Alene, ID, his grandchildren, Kassandra Russell, Robert Russell, and Kallie Tennison, also his step-father Don Nelson of Petersburg, AK, and his siblings, Karen Flyum, Homer, AK, Clyde Tennison, Dayton, NV, Mike Tennison , Juneau, AK, Ty Tennison, Alpine, CA, Tina Tennison, Homer, AK, Carol Druyvenstein, Juneau, AK, and John Nelson, Juneau, AK.

His wishes were for cremation, and to have his ashes dispersed by his wife and children over southeastern Alaska waters. Condolences can be emailed to [email protected]
