Eagle River resident Dan Siegel, 53, died in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, on Aug. 2, 2009. A celebration of life will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Lions Club in Eagle River. Dan was born Dec. 6, 1955, in Roseburg, Ore. He became a resident of Alaska in 1982. In Alaska he was a co-owner of Siegel Construction & Klondike Concrete of Chugiak. His family wrote: "Not only was he family, our husband, son, brother, father and grandfather, he was a best friend to most of us. He was our rock, always a shoulder to lean on, an ear that was listening, and someone . . . we could always count on. He had so many wonderful qualities: a loving family member, a great sense of humor, an ability to always have a good time, and an amazing sense for business. He was the toughest man we knew with the biggest heart. We are deeply saddened by his loss. He was a man of great influence and we are all losing out on the opportunity to be better people just for knowing him. He is irreplaceable and our worlds will never be the same again. He will remain in all our hearts as well as a few of his most cherished places." He is survived by his wife, Jill Siegel; son, Brett Siegel; daughters, Katie Siegel and Mandi McIntyre; granddaughter, Lauren McIntyre; grandson, Gavin McIntyre; brother, Steve Siegel; and sister, Nancy Schultz. Memorial donations may be made to support his daughter Katie's special needs at Focus Inc. An account has been set up at First National Bank Alaska. Arrangements are with Janssen's Eagle River Funeral Home.
