Dana Leigh Cobb "Murphy" was born on April 20, 1966, in Carlsbad, N.M. She gained her angel wings on Jan. 14, 2018, at Providence Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska. At the time of her passing she was surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Dana's infectious smile will never be forgotten and her passion to make others happy with hugs, singing and silly jokes will always remain in our hearts. The community was truly blessed with her cheerful outlook, art work and bead work. Dana graduated from Dimond High School in 1988. She participated in The Special Olympics and was awarded with Gold and Silver medals in both track and field and gymnastics.
Dana took pride in her work environments at Assetts and Providence, and retired at age 50. Dana's direct support professionals, "buddies," would spend time with her in the community and at home. Her days were spent at her favorite hang outs: Peggy's Restaurant, Kay's Kitchen, SPARC and bowling. Dana always looked forward to her Friday night movie dates with mother and dear friends.
Dana is survived by her loving mother, Karen Murphy; brother, Chris Murphy and Tonya; sister, Gena O'Neal and Shannon; as well as her grandfather; uncles and aunts; nephews and nieces; and cousins. She was preceded in death by father, Gene Murphy; grandmother, Sue Mallott; and uncle, Mike.
Lucky us, to have known and loved someone like Dana.
Services will be held at Evergreen Memorial Chapel on Monday, Jan. 22, 2018, at 5 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at the Moose Lodge on Arctic Boulevard.
