Deborah Ann Smith, 56, passed away on June 8, 2016, at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska, due to complications related to diabetes. Her funeral service will be held on June 15, 2016, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 3900 Wisconsin Street in Anchorage. Father Vincent Blanco will officiate. A graveside service will follow at Angelus Memorial Park Cemetery, 440 East Klatt Road. Deborah was born on April 22, 1960, in Mt. Shasta, Calif. She moved to Anchorage in 1974, and graduated from West High School in 1978. She went on to graduate with honors from University of Alaska Anchorage with a Bachelor of Arts in English and History, where she was on the Dean's List throughout her college years. Deborah retired in 2013 as Vice President of Cape Fox Corp in Anchorage. Her hobbies were gardening, soccer, being a "hockey mom," reading and taking care of her constant companion, "Jiggs," her Boston bull terrier who recently passed away. Her family said: "Debbie was a passionate gardener. She enjoyed barbecues and holidays with her family. Debbie loved mastering her son's Halloween makeup. Debbie cheerfully welcomed everyone to her dinner table. We will miss her smile, sense of humor and quick wit. Debbie's greatest joy was watching her son, Cobi, play hockey, from the time he started at Dimond Ice Center, then Northstars, Alaska All Stars and Dimond High School. Debbie supported Cobi through three years of Junior Hockey in Canada and Pennsylvania by sending care packages every week and watching all his games from home on her computer." Deborah is survived by her son, Cobi Smith-Mass; mother, Lynette (Lynn) Smith; father, John H.B. (Barbara) Smith; sister, Teri (Doug) Buckmeier-Nienhaus; nephews, Travis (Melony) Buckmeier and Trevor Buckmeier; grandnephews, Bodie, Alton, Easton and Calder Buckmeier; cousins, Samantha (Dewey) Wells and Lorie Floyd, all of Anchorage; and many cousins in California and Alaska. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Lyle R. (Lillian) Alton; paternal grandparents, Matt R. (Louise) Smith; aunt, Linda (Alton) Williams; and uncle, Lyle R. Alton II. Arrangements are entrusted to Legacy Funeral Home, Heritage Chapel at Angelus.
