Eugene Barnhart of Georgetown, Texas, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018. He was 75.
Eugene was born on Oct. 12, 1942, in Wichita, Kan., to Charles H. Barnhart and Grace A. (Beardsley) Barnhart. He spent four years in the U.S. Air Force. In 1965, he married the love of his life, Dorothy M. Long, in Tok, Alaska.
He loved to socialize and had a great sense of humor, never missing an opportunity to make someone laugh. Eugene was a bush pilot for 30 years. Storytelling was one of Eugene's gifts, as he always had a good time sharing tales of his adventures.
He was a generous and kind soul who will be deeply missed and cherished forever.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Georgetown, Texas. Eugene adopted Dorothy's two children and he was proud of all three of their kids: son, Dan of Anchorage, Alaska; daughter, Lorna and husband Frank of Anchorage; and daughter, Bonnie Elliott and husband Bob of Georgetown, Texas. He is also survived by his brother, Calvin Barnhart of Knoxville, Tenn.; nephew, Steve Barnhart and wife Michelle of Centerville, Ohio; and his niece, Kelee Nees and husband Dave of Holt, Mich.; as well as various cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held on March 3, 2018, at Eugene's favorite Georgetown restaurant. His cremated remains will be brought back to Alaska, his adopted home.
