Pioneer Alaskan Evelyn (Bobby) Hamm died July 9, 2012, at the age of 85 at St. Elias Hospital in Anchorage.

No services will be held in accordance with Bobby's wishes.

Bobby was born January 9, 1927, in Portland, Oregon. She arrived in Alaska on July 4, 1951. George and Ruth McLaughlin introduced her to the love of her life, Ernie Hamm, in October 1951. Bobby and Ernie were married November 5, 1952, by Magistrate Dorothy Saxton in Palmer, Alaska at Dorothy's homestead.

Bobby was a homemaker and a storeowner.

When Ernie retired from the Singer Company, she and Ernie started Riehl Sew n Vac in October 1983. Bobby and Ernie successfully ran their sewing machine store until their retirement on July 18, 2011. The store continues to operate under the ownership of son, Greg.

The most important memories and joys in her life was her family. She enjoyed all the special times spent at Nancy Lake. Bobby and Ernie also enjoyed traveling together.

Bobby loved angels, rainbows, the Northern Lights, sharing special quotes and poems with loved ones. One of her favorite poems was by Kahlil Gibran: "I looked upon slumbering Nature, and with reflection discovered the reality of a vast and infinite thing - something no power could demand, influence acquire, or riches purchase. Nor could it be effaced by the tears of time or deadened by sorrow; a thing which cannot be discovered by the blue lakes of Switzerland or the beautiful edifices of Italy. It is something that gathers strength with patience, grows despite obstacles, warms in winter, flourishes in spring, casts a breeze in summer, and bears fruit in autumn - I found Love"

Bobby is survived by her husband, Ernest (Ernie) A. Hamm, Jr.; her children: Karen Hamm and son-in-law, Eric Titus, Sharon McCracken, Carol Licho and son-in-law, Charlie Licho, Ernest (Ernie) Hamm, III, Greg Hamm and daughter-in-law, Sally, granddaughter Alexandria (Lexi) Hamm, "granddaughter" Ainsley Hipsak; all of Anchorage; sisters Dorothy Henderson, Portland, Oregon and Rosemary Bond, Bayside, California and brother, James Tell, Johnston, Rhode Island.

She was preceded in death by mother, Rose M. Tell, father, Gabriel Riehl, and son-in-law, Dennis McCracken.

Bobby donated to many charities. Donations may be made in her name to St. Jude's, Gilda's Club of Seattle, Virginia Mason Medical Center of Seattle, Children's Hospital at Providence or a charity of your choosing.
