Jennie Mendez was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, June 14, 2017. She was born in Mekoryuk, Alaska, on Feb. 5, 1953, to Harry and Ida Wesley. A lifelong Alaskan, Jennie grew up in Mekoryuk and after graduation settled in Anchorage, Alaska, where she met her husband and soul mate of 45 years, Staff Sergeant Augustine Mendez Jr., U.S. Army retired. Jennie was an honorable military wife, passionate and dedicated mother and grandmother, highly recognized Alaskan Silver Hand Artist and entrepreneur. She loved the outdoors, traveling and spending time with her family. Jennie lived life to the fullest with an unwavering faith in the Lord. Jennie is survived by her husband, Augustine Mendez Jr.; daughter and son-in-law, Dolores and John Webster; her son, Miguel Mendez; grandchildren, Tianalyn and John Webster and Christina, Augustine and Antonio Mendez; her mother, Ida Wesley; and sisters, Amy Kanrilak, Viva Smith and Clara Ivanoff. Jennie was preceded in death by her father, Harry Wesley; and brothers, Butler and Chester Wesley. A memorial service was held June 26, 2017, at Fort Richardson National Cemetery, where she was laid to rest until we meet again.
