Jody "Joe" Christopher Gibbons, 51, passed away from colon cancer on Jan. 13, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family in Anchorage, Alaska. He was born in Albany, Ga., finally settling in Alaska in 1974.
Joe started with the State of Alaska Department of Transportation as a college intern and became the Equipment and Technology Technician before finally becoming the Highway Data Manager. He received his bachelor's degree in math.
He loved playing the piano, singing, music, travel, board games and puzzles, camping, rock climbing, computers, chess, babysitting his nieces and nephews, Halloween, Christmas, Archie, Snoopy and cats.
As a little boy, Joe was playful, sneaky and mischievous. These traits followed him into adulthood and were great tools for babysitting nieces and nephews. He planned elaborate treasure hunts and games for them with great glee. Joe loved to travel and explored the Galapagos Islands, Machu Picchu and London, as well as many other destinations. He met Dominic in London and the two wed on May 1, 2015. Dom lovingly cared for Joe throughout his terrible illness. He was an amazing, warm, loving person, full of wisdom, and had a great sense of humor. He was always willing to help out anytime with advice or support. Joe loved his family and friends and we are proud and thankful to have been his.
