Juanita "Nita" Arbella Shumaker, 79, passed away in the early morning of Oct. 22, 2015. She peacefully went home to the Lord surrounded by her loving family. A visitation will be held at Anchorage Baptist Temple, 6401 East Northern Lights Blvd. in Anchorage, Alaska, on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, at 10 a.m., with a service afterwards at 11 a.m. Nita will be laid to rest at Fort Richardson National Cemetery. Nita was born in Roanoke, Ala., on Sept. 17, 1936. She was the daughter of Cordelia and Walter Drill. She ran two successful businesses in Anchorage and was loved by everyone she met. Nita was always willing to help anyone. Nita is survived by her husband, Joe Shumaker; son, Shane; daughter and son-in-law, Shelia and Byron Ipock; and her eight grandchildren, Jessica Devier, Tristian, William, Christopher and Elijah Shumaker and Joseph, Joshua and Jacob Ipock. Arrangements are with Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
