Alice Katrina Grundhl, 74, passed away on Feb. 1, 2018, at Providence Hospital. There will be a Celebration of Life on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018, at 3 p.m., located at The Salvation Army Corps Chapel, 1701 C Street in Anchorage, Alaska. Born to Jan and Christina Hoogstad on Aug. 31, 1943, in Roswell, N.M., Katrina had many brothers and sisters.
She married Gordon Gene Grundahl on Dec. 9, 1968. In late October 1972, the Salvation Army couple adopted a 2-month-young daughter, Katrina Elizabeth "Liz" Grundahl, born in August. The family was stationed in Kake, Alaska, and was adopted into the Tlingit tribe there: Gordon was a Raven and Katrina and daughter were Eagles, all given names. After stationed as Salvation Army Corps officers in Kake, the family moved three more times. Unfortunately in Haines, Alaska, Gordon, her husband, had succumbed to cancer and passed in the home on Oct. 8, 1984.
Since August 1986, Katrina served as Director of the Salvation Army McKinnell Family Shelter until her retirement in September 2008.
She has touched numerous lives since her enrollment as a Salvation Army officer began in June 1965.
She leaves behind her only daughter, Katrina Elizabeth Grundahl; and five grandchildren, James D. Rose, Kjeirstan Elizabeth Movius, Raymond L. McCord, Tony L. McCord Jr. and Everett Virgil Gene McCord.
She will be deeply missed by all. She would like all to think of her fondly and do well.
