Larry Charles Hobbs, 69, passed away due to natural causes on Sept. 11, 2016, at his home in Anchorage, Alaska. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016, at 7:30 p.m., at Providence Alaska Medical Center West Auditorium. Ron Galt, Director of Spiritual Care at Providence, will officiate. Larry was born on June 6, 1947, in Portsmouth, Ohio. He earned an associates degree in respiratory Therapy from Sinclair Community College Dayton, Ohio, in 1973. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a Medical Corpsman 1966-1970 at Bergstrom Air Force Base. He moved to Anchorage in 1981, where he worked at Providence Hospital starting in 1983. He was affiliated with St. Mark Lutheran Church and was a student of Taoism. He won the Mission Spirit award at Providence Hospital at least twice. He also volunteered at Bean's Cafe. He enjoyed spa workouts, bicycling, hiking and bird watching. Larry was a kind, compassionate man who worked hard and positively influenced those around him every single day. His coworkers said, "he is very much missed. He was an icon in the adult intensive care unit at Providence. He cared for many patients over the years." Larry is survived by his wife, Rebecca; his sisters, Dianna Wells and her husband, Larry, and Carol Lee; son, Bill Hobbs and his wife, Melinda; granddaughters, Cynthia and Brittany; his ex-wife, Barbara; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Hobbs (2012); and mother, Mary Alice Powell (2013).
