Leif Howard Lunde Ramos, 45, passed away from natural causes on Dec. 30, 2017, in Anchorage, Alaska. He was born on Aug. 26, 1972, in Honolulu, Hawaii, and became a resident of Alaska in 1977.
Leif graduated from AJ Dimond High School and attended Western State Colorado University and University of Alaska Anchorage.
His hobbies consisted of photographing the northern lights and Alaska outdoors, surfing the bore tide, snowboarding, experiencing the Alaskan and Hawaiian wildernesses, enjoying his dogs, the company of his friends and family, loving people and places, introspection and living a free and unencumbered life. Leif loved the water - teaching standup paddle boarding and giving guided paddle board tours in the waters of Alaska and Hawaii, doing business as "On Any Body of Water." He was a lover of music, especially reggae and the blues, and a film maker.
Leif Ramos was an artist who loved the world and his home, Alaska. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Leif personified the Hawaiian Spirit of Aloha. He was truly a free spirit, courageous, forgiving and immensely talented. His capacity for unconditional love seemed infinite. His enduring message will remain with us forever: "Aloha ... I believe in Alaska and Kindness, Ohana first, meaningful Friendships, counting my Blessings and Giving to others. I choose to see the good in life even during times of struggle. I am Grateful for the life I have and for all the wonderful people that makes this journey worthwhile." Leif believed deeply in the power of introspection and "Know Thyself." A true poet, he once wrote: "I dream often. Some say too often. I say dream more, dream big and then follow through!"
Leif's friend Daryl says it best: "I am saddened to learn about the passing of Anchorage's chairman of the board. Leif had a few brushes with death, and for that he wasn't afraid to live. So he did. He takes with him knowledge and experience that few Alaskans will ever have. Leif also had an enormous love and respect for family, which he would talk about constantly. Spanning from the top of the globe, to all the way down under, Leif had enough love to cover the area."
