Leroy Eric Lawrence, 17, of Anchorage, Alaska, died officially on April 11, 2017, as a result of injuries from a fatal gunshot wound. He remained on life support surrounded by family and friends until it was time to donate his organs. He was born on April 7, 2000, in Anchorage and shot on April 7, 2017, the son of Gene Lawrence and Angela Pointer. He was a junior at East High School and attended Clark Jr. High as well as Mt. View Elementary School.
Leroy participated in several sports but loved basketball especially, playing his game 2K17. He described himself as "being the light for my little sister to keep her up and full of life because times are rough." He was thankful for his family, his phone, basketball and being healthy. He was particularly grateful for his parents and often talked about making them proud.
Leroy is survived by his loving parents, Eric Lawrence and Angela Pointer; sisters, Ashanti Cypress, Jaaliyah Alexander and Angela Lawrence; nephew, Demetrius Cypress; niece, Xania Cypress; step-siblings, James and Shavon; and he also leaves behind many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Preceding Leroy in death are his grandmothers, Bernice Pointer and Dorothy Lee Lawrence; and cousins, Trevor Pointer and Learis Lawrence.
Services will be held at the East High School Auditorium on Saturday, April 22, 2017, with a viewing at 10:30 a.m. to noon, followed by a funeral service from 12-1 p.m.
