Marie Huseby, born Marie Evangeline Olson, passed away on Saturday evening, Jan. 27, 2018, in her home in Anchorage, Alaska.
A memorial service is planned for Feb. 10, 2018, at 1 p.m., at the old East Anchorage Methodist Church, 1660 Patterson Street.
Marie was born on Jan. 9, 1927 in Montevideo, Minn. Marie graduated from Montevideo High School in 1944, and nursing school in 1948. After working for a few years as a nurse, she received a commission in the army in 1955, where she was assigned to the Public Health Services in several communities in Alaska, including Dillingham and Anchorage.
She was introduced to Kenneth Huseby in 1963, who worked for the U.S. Army Corps as an engineer. They married on Jan. 4, 1964, and shortly after, bought the house that is still the family home. Over the next six years they had three children, June, Helen and John, and spent a year and a half each in Australia, London, and Washington D.C. before returning home to Anchorage. Marie loved to travel and took a return trip to Australia in the 90s. She also loved to spend time with friends and family, and was a life-long member of the East Anchorage United Methodist Church until it closed its doors. Marie continued to live in her Anchorage home until her death. Marie was an amazing, feisty, loving woman that will be greatly missed by those that knew her.
Marie Huseby is survived by her sisters, Margaret D'Spain and Ingerlene Cramer; her daughter, Helen (Colin) Coker; her son, John Huseby; her five grandchildren, Terri Coker, Robyn (Joe) Mayfield, Aaron Coker, Erika Coker and Logan Coker; two great grandchildren, Oliver and Emilia Mayfield; and numerous nieces and nephews. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Thora Olson; beloved husband of 49 years, Kenneth J. Huseby; daughter, June Huseby; and brother, Aaron Olson.
