Marvin Ray Scalph, 80, died on Aug. 27, 2018, at St. Elias Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska.
He leaves behind his wife Lorena Scalph, the love of his life, after recently celebrating their 30th anniversary and his adored daughter, Leandra, both in Anchorage.
Born in Spokane, Wash., to Orvin and Dema (Short) Scalph on May 10, 1938, Marvin grew up gardening and fishing with his family. He leaves a legacy of strong work ethic and determination, beginning with newspaper delivery to construction, from the pipeline to owning his own excavating and concrete business in Anchorage. He drove buses both in Washington and Alaska.
Marvin loved dancing with his bride, going to the movies, attending St. Christopher's Episcopal Church and together they loved to go out to eat.
He also leaves behind his son, Jeff (Kim) Scalph and his grandchildren, Jayben, Roman, Westin, Jackson and Josette who live in Washington, along with his daughter, Jamie and her daughter Angel, who live in Alaska.
Marvin possessed a great sense of humor, a sweet smile and bright blue eyes. He often had a toothpick in his mouth and a humble spirit. He enjoyed playing and watching sports with his beloved dog Maurice.
He is also survived by his sister, Mrs. Louis D. Pesce, of Georgia; his brother, Larry (Zona) Scalph of Washington; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Marvin Scalph will be held on Friday, Sept. 7, 2018, at 5 p.m., at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 7208 Duben Avenue in Anchorage. All are welcome to come and celebrate his life.
