Mary Hobson, "Cheda," at the age of 99, passed on Jan. 28, 2016, in Anchorage, Alaska, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Lime Village, Alaska, to Agofia and Gilly Evanoff. She had three brothers and four sisters who later gave her 14 nieces and nephews. In the year 1936, Cheda met Steve Hobson which began a family legacy of love, laughter and togetherness. They had 10 children, Aggie Alexie, Vera McLanders, Martha Trefon, Steve "Butch" Hobson, Edna Combs, Dorothy Mujica, Davis Hobson, Claudine Greene, Nicholi Hobson and Walter Hobson, who gave her 40 grandchildren; 82 great-grandchildren; 99 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild, with whom she shared her devotion to the Russian Orthodox Church and traditional Dena'ina knowledge. There was a visitation held on Jan. 29, 2016, from 12 p.m. - 2 p.m., at the St. Innocent Russian Orthodox Church, 401 Turpin Street in Anchorage. A Funeral Service will be held at the St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church on Monday, Feb. 1, 2016, at 2 p.m., in Nondalton, Alaska.
