Michael Brent Smith of Anchorage, Alaska, age 52, passed away after a two-year battle with cancer on Feb. 26, 2018.
Mike was born on June 24, 1965, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Brent Bailey and Onda K. (Summers) Smith. He graduated from Ririe High School in 1983, and then served a Spanish-speaking Latter-day Saints Mission in San Jose, Calif., from 1984-1986. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1990 with his bachelor's before receiving his master's from the University of Alaska Anchorage in 2005. He married Melissa Rosencrantz on Dec. 27, 1989, in the Idaho Falls Temple, and together they raised four wonderful children.
Mike and Missy came to Alaska in 1991 in order for him to serve as an Intelligence Officer in the U.S. Army. They quickly fell in love with Alaska and decided to leave the Army and make their home in Anchorage. Mike began working at UAA in 1993, where he worked for nearly 24 years, assisting both students and staff. His greatest joys in life came from being with his family, helping others and serving the Lord.
Mike is preceded in death by his father, Brent Bailey Smith. He is survived by his wife, Melissa, and their four children: Kayla, Jeremy (Samantha), Johanna and Jonathan. He is also survived by his mother, Onda K. Smith; sisters, Sandi (Chris) Maathuis and Shanna (Brian) Dunlevy; and brother, Clint (Michelle) Smith.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at 12 p.m. at The Latter-day Saints Church, 2240 Baxter Road in Anchorage. The viewing will be at 10:30 a.m.
