Anchorage resident Norma "June" Shaw, 66, died Nov. 21, 2007, at home with family members by her side.
A memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Saturday at the North Anchorage Church of God. The Rev. Tommy Shook will officiate.
Mrs. Shaw was born to Floyd D. and Audrey "Lois" Norris on June 17, 1941, in Wichita Falls, Texas. She was chosen valedictorian of her eighth grade graduating class. She moved to California where her children were born, then moved to Washington. She moved to Yakima, Wash., in 1974 and was employed by St. Elizabeth Medical Center from 1979 to 1994.
Mrs. Shaw and her husband came to Alaska in 1996 and lived with family members.
She enjoyed spending time with her family. She liked to read and do crossword puzzles. She enjoyed walking, hiking and picnics. She loved going for drives, and loved the scenery. She loved Alaska.
"Mom was a very special lady," her family wrote. "She never turned away a child in need. She was our hero. She filled everyone who knew her with her loving kindness. Each day with her was a blessing. She will be greatly missed."
She is survived by her husband, Ronald of Anchorage; son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Jennifer Duvall of Maricopa, Ariz.; daughter and fiance, Jeannie Duvall and Pablo Nunez of Anchorage; son and daughter-in-law, David and Robin Duvall of Shreveport, La.; son, Richard Duvall of Anchorage; daughter and son-in-law, Denise (Leann) and Steven Schmoe of Anchorage; stepdaughter and husband, Angie and Darren Bodnar of Paris, Ark.; stepson and wife, Sean and Rebecca Shaw of Selah, Wash.; brothers, Mickey McCoy and wife Denise of Fort Mitchell, Ala.; Dale Norris and wife Ilene of Arizona; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Garner Roberts of Junction City, Kan.; grandchildren, Michelle, Audrey and Ronnie Jr. of Washington, Haley and Mackenzie of Arizona, Amanda Nunez of Anchorage, Jenna of Oregon, Alaina and Eric of Louisiana, David James of Washington, Aron, Christopher and Alex of Anchorage, Kaylie of Washington, Zachary, Nicholas, Nathaniel, Christian and Breanna of Anchorage, Zakkary, Brodie and Abbie Jo of Arkansas, Colton, Rachel, Riley, Brianna and Bethany of Washington; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Shaw was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Megan.
