Long time Alaskan Patricia Gabbert passed away peacefully on Feb. 19, 2018, with family by her side. Pat was born in Grass Valley, Calif., where she also spent her childhood. She became a cosmetologist and salon owner, and won many awards in the hairdressing industry. Pat came to Alaska in 1966, as a featured stylist and, with her husband and children, decided to make Anchorage her home. Together they owned Anchorage Beauty College, the first school of its kind in Alaska. She went on to earn bachelors degrees in science and education. She taught and retired from McLaughlin Youth Center. A long time resident, she enjoyed volunteering at the Anchorage Senior Center, dancing at Carpenters' Hall and biking the Alaska trails. She loved hosting at the family home, and was always the life of every party. Over the years she was happiest at her brother's lodge, Gabberts Fish Camp, on Alexander Creek. Of all her great accomplishments, raising her six children was the one she was most proud of.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Paul Gabbert; grandson, Colt Buffkin; and daughter, Kris Bliss.
She is survived by her brother, Gilbert; and sister-in-law, Jewel; children, Steven, David, Bonita, Brittnea and Andre; grandchildren, Brie, Brayden, Dirkston, Mary and Mandi; granddaughter-in-law, Bekkah; great-grandchildren, Harmonie, Savannah, Dominick, Hezekiah, Little James and Jordan; sons-in-law, Rick and Steve; nephews, Keith, Paul Jr., Robert, Bruce and Brad; niece, Gabriel; best friend, Bobbi; and so many more family and extended family.
Pat was kind, with a great sense of humor. She could relate and talk to anyone, but was allergic to B.S. Those who got to know her considered themselves family. She will truly be missed.
In typical Pat fashion, we will be having a party in her honor on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018, at 4 p.m. Please contact her family for more information.
The family would like to give special thanks to the Providence care team all of those that helped care for and comfort our mother.
