Pierre M. Shirk (1963 - 2018)

Pierre Montgomery Shirk, a business representative with the Teamsters Local 959, died unexpectedly, at home, on Dec. 17, 2018, at the age of 55. His cause of death is unknown, deemed natural causes.
Pierre was born on March 3, 1963, in Anchorage, Alaska, to Margaret "Ann" Shirk and Carrol "Cal" Pierre Shirk.
While most of his 55 years were spent in Alaska, he did live in Phoenix, Ariz.; the cities of Vancouver and Seattle, Wash.; and, as a baby, in Farmington, Minn.
Pierre's job as a business representative for the Teamsters Local 959 was an accomplishment that he and his family were very proud of. Being a Teamster was a huge point of pride for him. He had only started this new position on Oct. 1, 2018, after proudly driving a school bus for the Anchorage School District for 16 1/2 years. He began as a Teamsters Shop Steward at the ASD bus barn in 2007.
Pierre's passion was music and his guitars. He was an extremely gifted and self-taught guitarist. He picked up his first guitar at the age of 14. There was never a time he didn't own one. The past several years he was thoroughly enjoying playing in a band with a close group of friends. His collection of guitars has been passed on to his equally talented nephew, Tanner Cuthbert.
During the summer months, Pierre loved to fish, ride his bike, walk his mama's dog and read. He especially loved to fish in the midnight sun hours, when he could really enjoy the solitude of his fishing experience.
As a youth, he excelled in baseball, downhill skiing and hockey. As an adult, he occasionally donned his skates and grabbed his stick for a Westchester Lagoon outing. Pierre was always a hard worker. His work ethic was inherited from both of his parents. He had a paper route as a kid, and never really stopped working after that.
Pierre's death, at such a young age, leaves a huge hole in all of our hearts.
He was preceded in death by his dada, Carrol Pierre Shirk "Cal."
He is survived by his mama, Margaret "Ann" Shirk; his sister, Holly E. Shirk and her children, Mariah R. Cuthbert and Tanner J. Cuthbert; his sister, Cara N. Dixon and her husband, Adrian J. Dixon; and eldest sister, Kelly L. Shirk.
