Robert Allen Rodgers, 77, resident of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at his home in Anchorage, unexpectedly. Robert was born in Montgomery, W.Va., on Aug. 7, 1939, to Boyd Benton and Mary Frances (Elliott) Rodgers. He met the love of his life while in the hospital to remove his tonsils. He married Rhonda Lee Music on June 5, 1960, in Anawalt, W.Va. They settled down in Bear, Del., and then in Newark, Del. He worked for the State of Delaware as a rehabilitation counselor. He received a Bachelor of Science degree for Secondary Education for math and science from Glenville State College and a Master of Science degree in Rehabilitation Counseling and Personnel Management in 1974 from Virginia Commonwealth University. He was also an avid ham radio operator and has spoken to people all over the world. He was an Eagle Scout and volunteered for years with the Boy Scouts as a scout leader. He was a member of Muldoon Road Baptist Church and a Captain in the AK Defense Force.
He is survived by his children, Alan and Marsha Dietz of Richmond, Va., Tammy Rodgers of Winterhaven, Fla., Tina and Randy Schaefer of Anchorage, Toni and Robert Truelove of Anchorage and Terry and Anna Rodgers of Newark, Del.; grandchildren, Melissa Becker, Tabitha Kelly, Rebecca Caudill, Corey Rodgers, Rhonda Posegate, Jeremy Truelove, Tyler Rodgers, Justin Dietz, Joshua Dietz, Chase Truelove, Christopher Kelly and LaKhota Truelove; great-grandchildren, Hunter and Austin Cargill, Skylar and Cody Booksh, Fischer Eby and Nicholas Becker; siblings: brothers, Charles of Charleston, W.Va., and Roger of St. Louis, Mo., and sisters, Rose and Doris of Lakeland, Fla.; as well as numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Rhonda (Music) Rodgers; brother, Leon Rodgers; parents, Boyd B. and Mary Frances (Elliott) Rodgers; his in-laws, Joseph and Dorothy (Jones) Music; and grandparents, Emerson M. and Elizabeth Frances (Hedrick) Rodgers and Charles C. and Hester Ann (Morton) Elliott.
Flowers are welcome, contact church with any questions. Memorial Service to be held on April 29, 2017, at Muldoon Road Baptist Church at 2 p.m., Fred Stroud Officiator. Color guard provided by AK Defense Force. Ashes will be spread at a later date by the family. Cremation by the Cremation Society of Alaska.
