Ronald James Phillips passed away, at 69 years old, on Jan. 8, 2019, surrounded by his children in Anchorage, Alaska. Ron was born in North Island, Calif., on May 19, 1949, to Robert Phillips and Thelma Sordahl. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Rodney Phillips; and sister, Theresa Burchett. Ron is survived by his four children: Stephanie, Richard, Karla and Karina Phillips. Additionally, he is survived by his three grandchildren: Emrose Phillips and twins Aiden and Liam Yutuc.
Ron grew up in Longview, Wash. He served in the U.S. Army and was deployed in the Vietnam War with the 1st Battalion, 321st Field Artillery Regiment. After serving in the military, he moved to Anchorage. Ron primarily worked in management positions in retail and retired in summer 2015. He enjoyed spending time with his children, watching football - especially the Seattle Seahawks, fishing, exploring Alaska, and traveling to Las Vegas, Nev., and Mexico. Ron had a good sense of humor and made the best of every situation, including his recent illness.
Ron was an amazing, hardworking and loving father and grandfather who is already greatly missed.
Services will be held at Legacy Heritage Chapel at Angelus on Jan. 12, 2019, at noon.
