Anchorage resident Steven M. Kean, 20, died June 15, 2009, in Chugiak. A private family service was Tuesday. He was born Nov. 25, 1988, in Fresno, Calif. Steven was a great athlete. His favorite sports were baseball, wrestling and football. He was a 2006 graduate of Chugiak High School, where he lettered in baseball. Steven enlisted in the Alaska Air National Guard. In June 2006, he was chosen as squad leader and honor graduate at basic military training at Langland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He completed the Fire and Rescue Academy in San Angelo, Texas, and served three years with the 176th Wing, Civil Engineering Fire and Rescue Squadron at Kulis Air Guard Base in Anchorage. Steven married Abigail Cleveland on Dec. 30, 2006. Steven was a loving father for his beautiful 3-year-old daughter, Briana. He was a champion for his mother. He was very tender-hearted, genuine, respectful, kind, handsome and intelligent. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers, father and close friends. He especially liked duck hunting season and spending time with his family. Steven had a great sense of humor and was lighthearted and easygoing. Steven is survived by his wife, Abigail Kean and daughter, Briana Kean of Eagle River; mother, Jennifer Kean of Eagle River; father and stepmother, Bob and Electa Kean of Peters Creek; brother, Kevin Kean of Eagle River; sister, Kelly Kean of Las Vegas; nephew, Roman Kean of Eagle River; grandparents, Janet and Tommy Thompson of Las Vegas; grandparents, Joanne and Tom Kean of Boynton Beach, Fla.; mother- and father-in-law, Wendy and John Cleveland of Eagle River; sister-in-law, Hillary Cleveland of Anchorage; brother-in-law, Ryan Cleveland of West Chester, Pa.; uncles, Mike Thompson, Tom Thompson and Roy Kean; and cousins, Jessica, Emily and Mike Thompson. Steven was preceded in death by his brother, Brian Kean. The family requests that donations in lieu of flowers be made to the Briana Kaelyn Kean Memorial Fund Account #1466337 at Alaska USA Federal Credit Union.
