Lifelong Alaskan Thomas Blair Tressler Jr. died unexpectedly on June 30, 2016, in Seward, Alaska. He was 54. Tommy was born to Thomas B. Tressler Sr. and Patricia Painter on March 26, 1962, in Seward. He was the first grandchild for Russ and Marjorie Painter and grandson of Raymond and Isabelle Tressler. He attended school in Seward and Anchorage, Alaska, graduating from Seward High School. While in school in Anchorage, he pursued wrestling. He took regional and state awards and went on to attended Nationals in Long Beach, Calif. He also enjoyed working with ivory and gold nuggets in his teens. He made jewelry for family and friends. His daughter, Kayla, still wears a whales tale necklace with gold nuggets he made. Tommy followed in his father's footsteps and had a love of the sea and commercial fishing. He was an accomplished deckhand, skipper and boat owner. At a young age, he built a raft out of pallets and sailed it to Lowell Point. His mother said he even had a license plate on it. This was probably his first vessel he ran. He always returned to fishing and, in June, was looking forward to fishing with his brother, Scott. He was known for telling a great joke and could spin a story into quite the tale. His smile was infectious, no matter what was going on in his life. He loved hunting with his father and brother - bow hunting and shooting. Fishing took him away from home often but his pride and joy were his children. A Celebration of Life was held in Seward on July 17, 2016. The tremendous outpour of love and friendship was comforting to his family. The family will scatter his ashes in the spring. He was preceded in death by infant son, Parker Thomas Tressler. He is survived by his father, Tom Tressler Sr. (Debbie); mother, Patricia Painter; sister, Iris Tressler-Campbell (Doug); brother, Scott Tressler (Angela); daughter, Kayla Reed (Kenny); daughter, Taylor Tressler; sons, Spencer Tressler, Miles Tressler and Avery Tressler; also nieces, Bryana White (Daniel), Sierra Tressler and Whitney May (Mike). Tommy had a large extended family including aunts, uncles and many cousins. A educational fund has been set up for his children at Denali Federal Credit Union, 1501 East Huffman Road #191, Anchorage, AK 99515. Please make your contribution out to Pamela Jones.
