William Robert Elfstrom, 66, passed away on Dec. 18, 2017, at his home in Anchorage, Alaska. William was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Aug. 30, 1951.
A memorial service will be held at the Anchorage Baptist Temple on Dec. 27, 2017, at 1 p.m. He will be laid to rest at Fort Richardson National Cemetery.
William "Bill" is a retired veteran of the United States Air Force. He served 20 years with the Air Force, where he was stationed at McGuire in New Jersey; the Philippines; Kirtland in New Mexico; South Korea; and then Anchorage, where he finished his service. He moved to Anchorage in 1986, and later worked for Guardsmark as well as the Anchorage School District as a bus attendant. Bill attended the Anchorage Baptist Temple bi-weekly and was a member of the Lions Club of Mountain View.
Bill was happiest enjoying the simple things: watching the massive tides of Cook Inlet, impressed always with its power to move the earth and ice; keeping tabs on the ships coming in and out, and watching sunset after sunset at the boat launch. He kept track of the weather and always enjoyed sitting through a good rain, wind or snow storm in his car parked or out on a drive. He had his own special wildlife park at 6-mile creek on base where he often spotted bears, moose, porcupine and fox. He loved every pet with all his being, from pups, Rusty, Pepper and Cleo, to his last cats, Fred and Bob. Bill was a big kid at heart, which kept his kids young at heart into their adulthood. He had a heart of gold and the friendliest smile that will be missed by all.
Bill is survived by his loving ex-wife, Patricia Tomlinson; his son, Mark Elfstrom; and daughter, Sara Green (Elfstrom).
