On Jan. 14, 2016, Zachary David Johnson died at Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska, surrounded by family and cherished friends. Zach was born in the same hospital on Aug. 31, 1994, just over 21 years ago. Though his time with us was far too short, his impact was more meaningful and more widespread than the impact of many who have lived full lives. Zach had an abundance of outstanding traits: wit, thoughtfulness, amazing intelligence and kindness, to name a few. His true gift was to inspire others. Zach excelled in school - graduating from Robert Service High School Summa Cum Laude in 2013 - and never hesitated to use his academic talents to assist others. Zach's work ethic shone everywhere he worked, leading him to enrich the lives of so many at Fire Tap Alehouse and Moose's Tooth Pub & Pizzeria. Moose's Tooth meant the world to Zach, and the admiration of the Moose Tooth family for him is equally deep. Zach attended the University of Alaska Anchorage and maintained his generous spirit while making the Dean's list. The family will hold a formal viewing at Evergreen Memorial Chapel in Anchorage from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., with traditional funeral attire encouraged, and a casual Celebration of Life in the North Room Chalet at Kincaid Park from 1:30 p.m. - 4 p.m., where he would appreciate a sea of color, tie-dye if you have it. Zach's life tragically ended much too early, but that will not stop his radiance from living on. Zach's "ray of sunshine" will always touch those who love him. He will never be far. You are loved, Zach. And that's all anyone can ever really ask for. Zach is survived by his parents, Paul and Leiza Johnson; as well as his sister and best friend, Cassidy Leigh Johnson, from Anchorage. He has many other loving family members: grandmother, Sharon McKay of California; aunts and uncles, David and Lucia Ott of Italy, Richard and Judy Griebling of Colorado, Neal and Nancy Dunn of Florida, and Jeff and Kimberlee Johnson of California. Zach had many cousins that he grew up with and loved so much: Serena, Teo, Tino and Isa Ott, Lisa McCowen, Ellen Huang, Scott Griebling, Amy Benjamin and Alex, Patrick and Dave Dunn. He was fortunate to have many best friends, including Mila Lassuy and Zachary Harder, both of Anchorage.
