With her blankie in her hand and with her parents by her side, Avery Lee Lindholm passed away on Sept. 21, 2015. She died from complications due to brain cancer (medulloblastoma). Although she was only two years old, she touched the lives of many people, some living as close as next door or others as far away as Peru. She loved books, warmed milk, picking - and eating - blueberries, sledding, sliding, dogs, swinging, her blankie and, when mommy and daddy were not looking, her suckie. She put up with her daddy's music playing attempts and her mommy speaking to her in Spanish and with both of them kissing her way too much, although they would tell you it was not enough. While battling cancer she had support from people around the world. Prayers were said for her in Rome, spirits were consulted from San Francisco, Calif., friends and family lit candles, made a willow tree fort, prayer flags and quilts, and sent thoughts of love in texts, emails, cards, letters and care packages. She was clearly loved throughout her five-month battle with cancer, as she was throughout her life. Her parents, J.T. and Adrienne, miss her dearly and hope to be with her again someday; the time they spent with her was brilliant and breathtaking and simply too damn short. Her grandfather's belly will just not be tickled enough with her gone. Grandma now has extra cookies and needs a new hiking buddy. Grandy will be on the lookout for a new arts and crafts partner. She is survived by her parents, J.T. and Adrienne; her third parent, Jacki Augustine; her best friend, Bodhi; her daycare buddies, Carson, Silas, Ezra, Carroll, Naomi, Carter and Brooklyn; her main crush, Tony (sorry, Becky); grandparents, Bob and Maureen Hall, Margery Kerr and Cliff and Karen Lindholm; aunts, Nathalie, Liz and Mary Ann; uncles, Scott, Cliff and Jamie; cousins, Chandler, Caroline, Jordan, Clifford, Logan, Kendall and Christine; and many second cousins, extended family members, friends and neighbors. There will be a memorial service held for her at the Forget-Me-Not Nursery in Indian, Alaska, on Oct. 4, 2015, at 4 p.m. In lieu of presents, please just give all your family members a big hug and think of Avery often. Donations may be made in Avery's name to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library which puts a book in the hands of every child that registers every month until they are five (http://imaginationlibrary.com/) or Project Halo, Anchorage Hospice's new pediatric palliative care program (http://www.hospiceofanchorage.org/our-services/project-halo/).
