Officer Andy J. Dominguez, 39, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011, in his home in Alamogordo. He was born Jan. 15, 1971, in Alamogordo to Melcor M. Dominguez and the late Isaura C. Dominguez.
Officer Andy J. Dominguez was a well-known man in our community. Before he became a police officer, he worked for First National Bank in Alamogordo starting in high school through 2001. He met many people and made many friends while working there.
When he was hired by the city of Alamogordo with the Department of Public Safety, everyone in the community supported him in his choice of a new career.
Andy again met many new people in the community and he helped anyone and everyone. If someone needed a helping hand, whether it was while he was on or off duty, Andy was there. When he wasn't working or giving someone a hand, he loved to spend all his time with his lovely family. His children are very involved in sports and when they had a game, he was there watching or helping coach their team.
He was preceded in death by his loving mother Isaura C. Dominguez, father-in-law Jose A. "Gus" Payan, grandfather Genaro Castillo, uncle Jimmy Castillo and his nephew Jesse Castilleja.
Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Eva M. Dominguez; three children, Desiree Dominguez, of Portales, and Andria Dominguez and Andrew J. Dominguez, both of Alamogordo; a brother, Melcor, and his wife, Lisa Dominguez, of Alamogordo; sister Adriana Dorame, of Texas; and nephews Adam Castilleja, Joey Castilleja, LJ Dominguez and MJ Dominguez, all of Texas.
Andy is also survived by his mother-in-law Eva S. Payan, of Alamogordo; two brothers-in-law, Luis Payan and Andrew Payan, both of Arizona; and many great friends, including Lerien Hoyt and her husband, Dan, Todd Carlin and his wife, Nancy, Ricky Cooper and his wife, Rhonda, Sean Jett and his wife, Tracey, Rex Ellison and his wife, Cathy, and his best friend and sister, Kathy Torres.
To all of his buddies with DPS, Tracy, Bobby, Carlos and Scott, he truly loved you all, as well as his Alamogordo High School family, including Bill Hays and his wife, Lori; Coach Stockton and his wife, September; Darin Jaramillo and her husband, Tony; Mrs. D.; Pat Denny; Mrs. Kilmar and her husband; and, of course, all his friends at First National Bank in Alamogordo.
The rosary will be recited at noon Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church by Deacon Don Dickman.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, at Alamogordo High School's Tiger Pit with Father Bryant, O.F.M., officiating.
The Dominquez family has requested that people attending Andy's services wear sports attire, preferably a Dallas Cowboys jersey.
Pallbearers include Todd Carlin, Ricky Cooper, Bobby Pacheco, Carlos Munoz, Sean Jett, Jeff Fields, Rex Ellison and Billy Hays.
Honorary pallbearers will be David Black, Danny Chavez, Mike Siefert and Frankie Portillo.
The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
Should friends desire, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the account at First National Bank for Officer Andy Dominguez's children.
The Dominguez family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place locally at PCS.

Dearest Eva-
I was so very sad to learn of the passing of your precious Andy. When someone you love dies, especially someone as young as Andy, it leaves an empty spot in your heart which could never be filled by any other person. What a wonderful gift we have from god in the gift of memories. When you close your eyes, you can see and remember Andy just as he was when he was happy and healthy. Soon, in a new world of god's making, all pain, sickness and suffering will be gone forever. Until then, I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Officer Dominguez was a true friend to myself and my children. My children looked up to him; one attending La Luz Elementary and the other a Freshman at AHS. I am saddened to hear of Andy's passing. I attended the police academy with Andy and I can't remember a time I didn't see a smile on his face. It is easy to see, from all of those who have commented, that Andy was a great person and loved by many. God bless you and your family. You will be missed.

Eva and family, we were all blessed by knowing Andy, and impacted in many different ways. I think he was able to find the best in everyone, no matter what mistakes had been made. He was a wonderful role model for our kids and they could relate to him, maybe because he was a big kid himself sometimes! Our hearts are hurting, and we pray that the support of your friends and family can help ease some of your heartache. We will miss him...

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Today, we attended a memorial for one of my brothers. This one, in my opinion was far too young to leave this world. He was full of life, full of spirit and was a good man. He changed the world around him with his attitude, his personality, his willingness to do his job and the heart he had to change people for the better. The brother I am talking about is Andy Dominguez.
I have been to far too many of these memorials. I often wondered why I was left alive. I came to realize several years ago, that I was left for a reason. I also came to reason and belief that when God takes someone from this earth, there is also a reason. If you look at it closely in the coming months and years, the legacy lives on in other people. People that who’s lives Andy touched. They will remember the good things and will follow suit. They will try to be better. Maybe not all of the time, but there will be moments.
I believe that the people that Andy affected during his life will change just by the memory of him. I have seen it in many instances.
Andy’s wife and children will become stronger people in their heart and mind. They will grieve and miss him. They will cry when they are by themselves and feel deep sorrow. Time will help heal the wound. A wound heals, but there will always be a scar. That scar will hurt around that old wound from time to time and they will again shed tears.
I will pray for them from this time on. I will pray that they go on to do things that would make Andy proud. Things he would brag about on earth if he were here.
Andy will always be a brother to the Alamogordo D.P.S. and other law enforcement officers. He will also be at the school to watch the young people. He will also be with his family in spirit and in their hearts.
Alamogordo D.P.S. Brother

Please help his family understand that you need him right now more than they do, as hard as that is to comprehend and easier said then done. Please help them get through this with all your blessing. Also help us all to remember that when someone like Andy is taken we must find it in ourselves to fight through the difficulty & hurt so we may try to feel good alongside happiness for just a moment in making sure we celebrate his life, for it well deserves celebrating.

I know nothing can be said to take away your pain. But I hope you find strength and peace in knowing how much Andy was loved by all. My first encounter with Andy, was one that taught me a tough, but needed lesson. He was Officer Dominquez at that time, if you catch my drift. But, he was a good man, and when we saw each other again I thanked him and from that point on he was Andy, and boy did he like ragging on me :) I will never forget him, and neither will all the other lives he touched. God bless

Eva and Family, I was saddened to hear of Andys passing. He was a very nice guy with a big heart. Everytime I would see him, he always had a big smile and always went out of his way to say hello. May the Lord watch over you and your family in this trying time. St. Michael now has another soldier with him. Rest Well Brother!
