Lois Brewer Obituary

Our hearts are heavy as we announce the loss of our beloved mother and grandmother Lois Fay Brewer, also known as "The Greatest Mom and Grammy Ever."
She passed away at age 93 on Friday, March 22, 2013, shortly after arriving at La Posada Mesilla Valley Hospice in Las Cruces.
Lois Fay Murray was born Aug. 19, 1919, in Patton, Mo., to Charles B. Murray, a schoolteacher, and Curtie May Murray, a homemaker.
The family made several moves across the middle states as Charles sought new teaching positions in the one-room schoolhouses of that era. They resided in towns in Kansas, Colorado and Oklahoma. In Woodward, Lois attended and graduated from high school.
There, while a dental assistant, she met her husband, Glenn Edward Brewer, who worked in a bank. They lived in various places in the state, including Oklahoma City, where they worked at Tinker Field. Lois was a "Rosie the Riveter" on aircraft during World War II until the unit needed a typist, when she was called to that duty.
Their son Noel Benton Brewer was born in that city. Their daughter Melissa Fay Brewer was born in Alamogordo, where the family moved in the late 1940s for Glenn's civil service job at Holloman Air Force Base.
Lois began working for Otero County State Bank in the mid-1950s and remained there for 26 years while the bank went through several name changes. At the time of her retirement, she worked with James Goforth as a trust officer at the same location, then called United New Mexico Bank.
Glenn passed away early in 1976. As a widow, retirement found Lois fortunate enough to take several trips to distant locales with her sisters Ruby Westfall, of Alamogordo, and Lena Hunter and her husband, Owen, of California. Their brother, Alan Murray, resided in Iowa. All now have been reunited in heaven and, hopefully, new adventures will ensue there.
Both Lois and Glenn were longtime members of the First Presbyterian Church in Alamogordo and served in many capacities for the church. Lois was a nearly 60-year member.
Lois is survived by son Noel, of Alamogordo; daughter Melissa Bollschweiler and husband, Dave, of Las Cruces; granddaughter Leah Wilmeth and husband, Nate, of Las Cruces; and grandson Glenn, of Las Cruces. Also surviving are Lois' cats, Alamo (Mo-Mo) and Panda.
A celebration of Lois' life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at First Presbyterian Church, 1318 14th St., Alamogordo, with Dr. Robert Reno officiating.
Should people desire to make memorial donations, suggestions are the First Presbyterian Church; Animal Village of New Mexico, 7246 U.S. Highway 54/70, Alamogordo; or Safe Haven Animal Shelter, 840-D El Paseo Road, Las Cruces, NM 88001.

Lois was such a kind lady! Anytime I saw her she was smiling and would make me smile. She had a heart of gold and a great sense of humor. I will miss her.
