The family of Frieda Harris sadly proclaims the end of her earthly tasks and the beginning of her heavenly ones.
Frieda was born and raised in Nuremberg, Germany. She met Harold "Shorty" Harris in 1947 while he was stationed there with the U.S. Air Force. They were married May 3, 1952, in Cheyenne, Wyo. She and Harold raised four children and lived a very happy life together for 60 years.
Frieda had a great love of horses and riding. She continued riding until the age of 78. She also loved and mastered the art of crocheting. She entered and won various awards, including an exclusive ad in the Hersners catalogue in which she has her patterns located to pass onto others who also share the love of crocheting. She also entered several afghans throughout the years in the local Otero County Fair, which won several ribbons, including "Grand Champion."
Her creative talents, German cooking, laughter and caring ways will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband, Harold "Shorty," of 60 years; sons James Lee Harris, Alfred J. Harris and wife, Angela, and Harold J. Harris and wife, Laura, all of Alamogordo; and grandchildren Scott Harris, Shannon Harris, Jonah Harris, Matthew Viera, Erica Scotten, Shawn Harris, Laura Harris, Layne Harris, Bryan Harris, Kodie Harris and Morgan Harris.
She was preceded in death by her son Eric Harris.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at the Alamogordo Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Billy Tucker officiating.
The Harris family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the arrangements.
