Roberta Jean Simmons, 83, of Tularosa passed away Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, in Alamogordo.
Mrs. Simmons was born Oct. 18, 1925, in Whitney, Neb. She and her husband John bred, trained and raced horses in New Mexico. She worked for many years in pari-mutuels at Ruidoso Downs and Sunland Park race tracks. After retiring, she moved to Tularosa.
She is survived by sons Ronald Simmons, of Tularosa, Gerald Simmons, of Tularosa and Allen Simmons, of Paradise, Calif.; daughters Diana Braucci, of Tularosa, and Marcia Galiffe, of Somers Point, N.J., and grandchildren Brian, Scott, Marcia and Laura.
She is predeceased by her husband of 61 years, John, and her mother, Mary Knight.
Private services have been already been held.
The Simmons family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
