Thomas R. McGuire Obituary

"Top of the morning to you."

Thomas R. McGuire, 85, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2014, in Alamogordo. He was born on Oct. 7, 1928, in Easton, Pa. to John and Mabel Goodear McGuire.

Tommy was proud of serving our country from 1950 through 1954 in the United States Navy and receiving an honorable discharge. He enjoyed his time being an assistant scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America while living in New Hampshire and Minnesota. He also enjoyed his New Hampshire winter camping trips. Tommy had a green thumb and took pride in his flower and veggie gardens. His hobbies included "root, root, rooting" for the Boston Red Sox and the mighty Fighting Irish Notre Dame football team.
Pop-Pop was so looking forward to being a great-grandfather for the first time. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather-to-be. We all love Tommy and will miss his beautiful smiling Irish eyes and his great big smile.

Survivors include: his wife, Elizabeth L. McGuire of Alamogordo; daughters, Kimberly I. Johnson of Henniker, N.H., and Erin M. McGuire of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; son, T. Patrick McGuire of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; grandchildren, Rusty Johnson and wife Jessica of Colorado Springs, Colo., Sara Swanberg of New York, N.Y., his birthday twin, Colleen Bixby and husband Rick of Warner, N.H., Michael Swanberg of Tucson, Ariz., and Kristina Swanberg of Minneapolis, Minn.; sister, DeeDee Curran and husband Bill of Pearl River, N.Y.; and many special caring and loving friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Holly J. Swanberg, and brothers John McGuire and Robert McGuire.

The Mass will be conducted at 1 pm, Saturday, May 10, 2014 at St. Jude Parish, with Fr. Tom Hoffman, SJ, officiating. Inurnment will be at Ft Bliss National Cemetery at a later date.

Should friends desire, contributions may be made to The National Federation of the Blind of New Mexico, White Sands Chapter, 700 New York Ave., Alamogordo, NM 88310.

The McGuire family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place at PCS.
