Adrian Guerrero

Obituary Condolences

Adrian Guerrero, who achieved success as a police officer, schools administrator and community volunteer, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, after a courageous fight against cancer. He was 48.
He is survived by an adoring family and countless friends.
Adrian could have had a successful career in any big city, but he had a servant's heart, and he chose to pour it into his hometown of Alamogordo.
Adrian, who will always be remembered for his ready smile and laughter, was born June 18, 1959 at the United States Air Force Hospital in Chateauroux, France.
He attended school in Alamogordo and graduated in 1977 from Alamogordo High School. He earned a journalism degree from Western New Mexico University at Silver City, but he chose a career in law enforcement, which landed him on his hometown police force, the Alamogordo Department of Public Safety.
During his 18 years with DPS, Adrian served as a patrol officer, SWAT team member, firefighter, training officer and investigator. But his gregarious personality and journalism education made him an easy pick to represent DPS as a spokesman and facilitator of community programs. This included anti-drug programs in the schools and neighborhood security programs.
That experience lead to his involvement in numerous statewide and national organizations, many of them aimed at benefiting kids. These included the Special Olympics, D.A.R.E. and Camp Enchantment, to name a few. In those roles, Adrian made lasting friendships all over the nation. So, when he retired from the DPS in 2001 with the rank of sergeant, he was a natural fit for the school district's administration. As district safety specialist, he developed and maintained school security and related programs.
Adrian also loved the wild country surrounding Alamogordo, especially the Sacramento Mountains, where he spent many days hunting big game, fishing and hiking. He was a consummate storyteller and a natural guide who eagerly shared the wilds with family and friends.
The only thing he loved more than his community was his family.
Adrian married his wife, Laura, in 1990. Their daughter, Marissa, is a junior at AHS.
He is also survived by his parents, Fred and Wendy Leszczynski, of Alamogordo; a brother, Marc Leszczynski, wife Joleen and their children Megan and Abigail, of Las Cruces; two sisters, Carri Shuler, husband Steve and their children Joshua, Josiah, Sara and Rachel, of Aurora, Colo., and Karen Jennings, husband Keith and their children Keisha and Keith, of Peoria, Ariz.; and numerous other family members.
The Rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, at St. Jude Mission. Funeral Mass will be celebrated immediately following at St. Jude Mission with Father Bryant Hausfeld, celebrant.
A reception will follow at the Sgt. Willie Estrada Memorial Civic Center, provided the Alamogordo Public Schools.
Cremation will take place locally at PCS, entrusted to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home.
Should friends desire, contributions may be made to the family to help defray medical costs at Benefit for Adrian Guerrero Savings Account No. 93212420 at First National Bank in Alamogordo.
