Agapita (Mama Aggie) Siders Obituary

On Nov. 29, 2014, Agapita (Mama Aggie) Siders joined her husband James, her son Shawn, her parents and 4 brothers in heaven following a courageous two year battle with cancer.

Aggie was born in Batangas, Philippines in 1929 to Juan and Felicidad Reyes. She met and married her husband James and followed him to Hawaii then all over the continental United States during his 20 year tour in the Navy and later as they traveled with their jewelry business. She moved to Columbus, Ohio, with family members and friends after his passing, finally settling in with her daughter and son-in-law here in Alamogordo in 1997.

She was a treasured member of Saint Teresa Benedicta of the Cross and Saint Joseph Carmelite Community of Las Cruces. She was welcomed into the Carmelite Community on Oct. 12, 2002, and made her Definitive Promise on Dec. 13, 2008. She was also a member of Immaculate Conception Church, ministering to the homebound and various other church activities. She was an active participant and volunteer at the Alamogordo Senior Center.
She was always smiling and a warm and giving soul. She loved people and made friends and new family members where ever she went. She will be missed by many.

She is survived by her daughter Wilma (Wilie) Luzano and her husband James; grandson Jason Luzano, his wife Bonni and son Christian; daughter Evangiline Saljob and son Kazumori; her sisters, Mary Ochua, Julie Reyes and Susana Eguia in New Jersey and the Philippines; her heart-adopted daughter Lany Cooper and her husband Roland; her brothers-in-law Bill and Mike Karn and their families. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and grandchildren in New Jersey, Florida, Japan and the Philippines.

A rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, followed by a celebration of life mass at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church.
A graveside service will be held at a later date at Fort Bliss National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her husband.
