Aileen G. McClung Obituary

Aileen G. McClung, 88, passed away on August 7, 2014, in Alamogordo. She was born on Aug. 28, 192,5 in Ft. Worth, Texas, to David Brown Gallagher and Bertha Wade Gallagher.

She retired after 37 years of civil service where she was a management accountant as a non-appropriated funds financial management office. She was a community leader involved in many organizations, both locally and greater area. She was nominated and published in "Who's Who In American Women" in recognition of her leadership community service volunteer work. She loved writing newsletters both on the job and for community work. She was a previous president of the hospital auxiliary, a member of Friends of the Library and Toastmasters Club, among several of the area groups that she attended for decades.
She was a proud second-generation Irish-American, on the paternal side of the family, and eligible to be a member of the Daughters of the Revolution, on maternal side of the family. Aileen believed in community and showed her passion through volunteerism; she also did volunteer work as a military dependent through Family Services in earlier years.
She advanced rapidly through school, skipping three grades, graduating at 14 years of age, completing her education at Tarleton College at age 17. She was the broad shoulders in the absence of her military spouse, when he had to ship out, and she remained loyal to him all her years. She was patriotic and believed in God and the Holy Spirit. She loved her family very much. She was a gifted woman of many talents; domestic, arts, and business. She leaves this world a better place for having shared her presence in it and inspiring many.

Survivors include: her son, Jack McClung of Alamogordo; her daughter, Regina Kathrine McClung and her daughter's husband, Jocelyn Picard of Tularosa. She is also survived by her grandchildren Kathleen M. Dalton, Asheville, N.C.; Christopher J. Clark, Newton, N.C.; Justin M. Clark and Chelsea A.M. Clark, both of Denver, Colo. James R. McClung of Alamogordo. She is survived by ten great-grandchildren - five girls: Cheyenne Dalton, Cierra Clark, Hanna Olden, Ariel Otero-Bunke, and Paisley Nolen, and five boys: Elijah and Mateo Wilson, Joseph and Paul Riege, and Luke McClung; and one great-great-granddaughter, Mylah.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Hugh McClung, her son Paul D. McClung, and her parents, David Brown Gallagher and Bertha Wade Gallagher.
