Albert L. Wagner Sr.
Albert L. Wagner Sr., 73, passed away Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, in Alamogordo. He was born in Pocahontas, Ill., on Sept. 19, 1937, to Clarence and Lorraine (Hall) Wagner.
Albert was raised on a farm in Illinois and then joined the U.S. Air Force at age 17. He served for four years, mainly at Walker Air Force Base in Roswell, where he met and married his wife, Carolyn. He then worked in construction in Roswell and moved to Alamogordo in 1968. In 1972 he started Wagner Homes Inc. and built many homes in Alamogordo until his retirement in 2005.
Over the years Albert was a member of the Building Contractors Association of Otero County, Alamogordo Noon Lions, Alamogordo Chamber of Commerce, Committee of 50, Elks, Loyal Order of the Moose and the Eagles.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Carolyn Wagner; daughter Gwen Sanders and husband, David; son Albert L. Wagner Jr. and wife, Cathy; grandson Randy Wagner; and great-grandchildren Landon and Alexis Wagner, all of Alamogordo; granddaughter Cristi Beckler and husband, Wes, of Las Cruces; mother-in-law Alice Talley and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jerry and Sandra Talley, of Alamogordo; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Marian and Jerry Cole, of Gilbert, Ariz.; two brothers, Russell and his wife, Diane, of Glen Carbon, Ill., and Don Wagner and his wife, Wanda, of Clinton, Miss.; two sisters, Betty Allen, of O'Fallon, Ill., and Margie Wilkins, of Collinsville, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Herbert, Walter and Howard Wagner; and sister Marilyn Shoate.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at the Alamogordo Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Mary Taken officiating.
Interment will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery.
The Wagner family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
