Albert Newton Ogle Obituary
Albert Newton Ogle, 89, passed away Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, in Alamogordo.
Mr. Ogle was born Oct. 17, 1920, in High Rolls to James Newton and Lurie Dessie (Boyles) Ogle. He was born in Karr Canyon at his parents' home and apple orchard. He attended High Rolls School, Alamogordo High School and Eastern New Mexico University in Portales. He was inducted into the U.S. Army at Fort Bliss on Jan. 6, 1942. He was sent by troop ship to Australia and was stationed on Karawena Island to protect the airfield. He received the rank of corporal, specialist heavy machine gun. He served with Battery C, No. 745, Anti Aircraft Artillery where he received four Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was discharged on June 4, 1945, at Fort Bliss. He owned 5-O Taxi in Alamogordo and worked the Ogle-Katowski Apple Orchard in Karr Canyon. He retired in 1981 from civil service at Holloman Air Force Base after 32 years of service.
He married Virginia Corder on Nov. 26, 1964, and they moved to Haynes Canyon where he lived for the rest of his life. Virginia passed away Feb. 19, 1990. He later married Helen Davis on Oct. 1, 1994, in Cloudcroft.
Albert was an expert marksman and deer hunter. He considered "deer season" to be a "national holiday." He was a lifelong Christian and more recently attended the Church of Christ in Cloudcroft and Alamogordo. He loved to travel in his Airstream trailer and Winnebago RV, which he drove to all 48 continental United States. He was a lifelong member of the VFW, Post 7686 and the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his father, James N. Ogle; his mother, Dessie B. Ogle; a brother, Warren Ogle; and a sister, Edith May Bonnell.
He is survived by his wife, Helen B. Ogle, of Horizon City, Texas; nephews Jimmy Bonnell, of Albuquerque, Tom Ogle, of Dumas, Texas, and John Artz, of Syracuse, N.Y.; and stepsons Ronald Davis, of Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, Benny Davis, of Horizon City, DeWayne Davis, of Austin, Texas, and David Nakabayashi, of Santa Fe.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at Monte Vista Cemetery with Bill Boverie officiating.
The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday at the funeral home.
The Ogle family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the funeral services.
