Field representative with the Census Bureau
Alice J. "Kick" McNiel, 69, of Tularosa, died Thursday, May 29, 2008, in Alamogordo.
Alice was born March 27, 1939, in Artesia to Alva Matthew and Ethel Safroni (West) Smith, both of whom preceded her in death. She was employed as a field representative with the Census Bureau, a job she thoroughly enjoyed. Late in life she received a bachelor's degree in sociology from New Mexico State University. Among her volunteer activities, she was an ombudsman at Good Samaritan Society, Betty Dare.
Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Chuck McNiel, of the family home; a son, Monte McNiel, of El Paso, Texas; a daughter, Melanie Hall and her husband Shane, of Artesia; five grandchildren, Kristy McNiel, of Monroe, La., Megan and Ashley Guy, of Denver, and Cade and Cooper Hall, of Artesia; a brother, Hunter Smith and his wife Bonnie, of Piñon; two sisters, Lessie Porter and her husband Irvin, of Piñon, and June Hall and her husband Joe, of Port Ludlow, Wash.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Piñon Cemetery with Shane Hall officiating.
