Alice "Ann" Starr Obituary
Oct. 27, 1928 – Aug. 31, 2009
Alice "Ann" Starr died peacefully on the morning of Monday, Aug. 31, 2009. A resident of Alamogordo since 1994, she is survived by six children, Linda (Marty Siemon), Julie (Dwayne Barch), Daniel (Patricia Starr), Elizabeth (Don Weirauch), Mary (Robert Csenar) and Mathew (Kristen Starr); close friend Dan Scott; 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Ann was an active member of the Alamogordo community as a past president of the garden club and member of the St. Jude's Catholic Church.
Alice Ann Haaland was born in Walled Lake, Mich., on Oct. 27, 1928. She married Richard Starr on Sept. 5, 1949, in Davenport, Iowa. Ann and Richard raised their family in Michigan and Colorado before moving to Alamogordo to enjoy retirement.
Ann Starr was a homemaker and business owner. In the late 1970s Ann and a business partner started Starr-Offutt, a commercial cleaning business. As one of the few women-owned businesses in those times, Ann made a success of this venture before selling the business to prepare for retirement.
Ann's strength of character and creative spirit helped her not only manage life's challenges, but do so in ways that provided enriched lives for all of those she loved.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at 3 p.m. at St. Jude Parish. A celebration of life will be held at the Moose Lodge at 4:30 p.m. Donations in Ann's name should be made to the House of Prayer in Alamogordo. She will be missed greatly by her family and friends.
