Allan "Al" Korzan Obituary
Al Korzan passed away suddenly on Wednesday, Aug. 10, 201l. Al was born on Nov. 16, 1944, in Independence, Mo. Al was raised in Pukwana, S.D. by his mother Olive (Hansen) Korzan and Harry Korzan. Al went to a one room school house as a young boy and even rode a horse and buggy to school with his friends.
At the age of 18, Al ran "away" from home and started his life adventure which included 21 very proud years in the Air Force. Al served in the Viet Nam war. Al was stationed in many different bases around the world and finally stationed in 1976 at Holloman Air Force Base.
Al retired from the Air Force in 1986 as Senior Master Sergeant. As Al always said, "five minutes after his retirement ceremony, he flipped his rear view mirror up, and never looked behind him." Al proceeded to become a well-respected insurance agent for the Farmers Insurance Group. He and his partner and friend Pat Papson have been in the business together for 25 years with offices in both Alamogordo and Ruidoso.
Al was a lifetime member of the VFW, Elks, Eagles and the Moose lodges . He was an avid photographer and had some first place awards in the Otero County Fair. Al also loved to fly, and owned his plane the "Olive Pearl." Al was also a member of Civil Air Patrol. His second favorite place to be besides his office was in front of a Double Double Bonus slot machine.
Al is survived by his sons: Kevin Korzan and his wife Olga their children, Cameron and Giovanni, of Las Cruces, NM, Andy Korzan and his daughter Kristina of California and Wade Korzan of Switzerland.
He is also survived by his sister Judy and her husband Doug Lester of Pukwana, S.D., his brother Gary Korzan and his wife Jeanice of Mitchell S.D. He also left behind many nieces and nephew's, who he loved very much. Many friend and business associates who will miss him.
He also left behind the "love of his life," Carol Fedric of Alamogordo.
He was preceded in death by his parents Olive and Harry Korzan, his beloved niece Tammy Kenobbie.
Visitation will be at Hamilton O'Dell Funeral in Alamogordo, Monday, August 15, 2011, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral services with full military honors, will be held Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Hamilton O'Dell. A reception will follow at the VFW.
Tentative memorial service and burial arrangements in Kimball, S.D. on Monday August 22, 2011, at Shearer -Mount Funeral handling the arrangements.
