Alma Mathers

1922 - 2007 Obituary Condolences
Alma Mathers, 85, of Bluff City, Tenn., died Nov. 20, 2007, at her home with son Milton Mathers and daughter-in-law, Gwyn.
She was born April 27, 1922, to John Williams "Bill" and Mary Annie Sweatt (deceased). She married Orval Mathers in 1940, who preceded her in death in 1986.
Alma was a housekeeper for many years for movie stars and lawyers in Palm Desert, Calif. She went to school in Cloudcroft at a young age. She used to ride in rodeos and worked in a bowling alley setting pins. She loved to make pretty things and give them to all her friends and family. She loved her pets and she always had some. She was always a giver, not a taker. She lived for many years with her daughter, Nancy Pugh and husband Don, of Carlsbad, and she had many friends.
She is survived by her son Milton and his wife Gwyn, and daughter Nancy and husband Don, of Carlsbad. She has one sister, Lettye Lossee, of Alamogordo, and a deceased sister, Virginia Redding. She has three deceased brothers, Gene Sweatt, Howard Sweatt and Gordon Sweatt.
She has 12 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
She will be buried in Bluff City, Tenn., with a small service. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Minister Milton Mathers for Church of Christ School 584 Mountain View Drive, Bluff City, TN 37618.
