Althea Kay Boyd Obituary
Kay Boyd, 70, passed away Monday, May 13, 2013, in Alamogordo. She was born Dec. 28, 1942, in Hagerman, N.M., to Amos and June Smith Hampton.
Survivors include her loving husband, Roy; son Cody, of Alamogordo; and sister Claudette Tedrick, of Claymore, Okla.
She was preceded in death by parents Amos and June Hampton.
Kay's family moved to Alamogordo in 1956. In 1960, she graduated from Alamogordo High, then earned an associate's degree from Eastern New Mexico University in 1962.
Kay and Roy were married in Cloudcroft in 1964. The family lived in Alamogordo until 1973 when they moved to Los Alamos. After retiring in 2002, they returned to Alamogordo.
She worked as a switchboard operator/purchasing agent at Sac Peak and at SIC in Alamogordo. In Los Alamos, Kay worked at EG&G as a property specialist until her vision diminished in 1985.
Kay attended classes at the Commission for the Blind and later taught a course there. She also was quite involved with the National Federation for the Blind.
She was a much-loved Mother and wife and will be greatly missed.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
The Boyd family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Hamilton O'Dell Funeral Home to direct the arrangements. Cremation will take place at PCS.
