Obituary Condolences

Anastasia Mackewich, 90, passed away Monday, Feb. 11, 2008, in Alamogordo. She was born Jan. 23, 1918, in Ontario, Canada, to Andri and Anna Zarkis, who immigrated from Lithuania in the early 1900s, eventually settling in Detroit. She married Frank Mackewich Sr. in 1935 in the Detroit area, where they lived and raised their family for many years. She moved to Alamogordo in 1987 to be closer to her grandchildren.
She was manager of the women's clothing department at Hudsons Department store in Detroit, retiring in the 1980s. She had a great love for her pet dogs and always took great care for them.
She is survived by her sister, Marion Ahern, of Michigan; daughter in-law Wilma Novotny and her husband John; grandsons Frank Mackewich Jr. and his wife Lorraine, Michael Mackewich and Eugene Mackewich; granddaughters Linda Perkins and her husband John, and Diana Montalvo and her husband Rene; great-grandchildren Adam Mackewich, Amanda Sunderland, Amy Perkins, Melanie Dehler, Stephanie Wendl, Stephen Montalvo, and Jennifer and Laura Mackewich; and great-great-grandchildren Bailey Kiehl and Sophia Dehler.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Andri and Anna Zarkis; husband Frank Mackewich Sr., in 1974; sons Frank Mackewich, in 1999, and John Mackewich, in 1964; brother William Zarkis; and sister Annie Balkevitch.
Inurnment will be held in Detroit. Cremation will take place locally at PCS, entrusted to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home.
