Angel G. Garcia

Obituary Condolences

Beloved husband, father and grandfather
Angel G. Garcia, 71, of Tularosa, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, at his home. Mr. Garcia was born Jan. 9, 1937, in La Luz to Sixto and Teresita Garcia. He graduated from Alamogordo High School in May 1956, where he was a three-year letterman in football. He married Cecilia Chavez Aug. 17, 1957. From this marriage they had six children.
Angel started his career with Land-Air (now Newtec) in February 1958 as a photo-optical technician. He retired in February 2000 after 42 years of dedicated service. Angel was considered by his co-workers as an "exceptional a-tech," but he was most proud of the friendships that he cultivated throughout his life, both on and off the base.
He will be remembered for his love of sports, particularly fast pitch softball. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved camping with family and friends. He also played guitar in the church choir. However, he and Cecilia will most be remembered for their love of dancing, especially leading "la marcha," or the "grand march" at numerous weddings and church events.
It was often said of Angel that he "never met a stranger." Angel also possessed a very good sense of humor and his big, friendly smile will be missed by all!
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Cecilia Garcia; three sons, Patrick Garcia and wife Anita, Rudy Garcia and Steven Garcia and companion Valerie Garcia; three daughters, Rita Garcia, Monica Garcia and Vivian Lueras and husband Sam; 12 grandchildren, including Celina Garcia, Rebekah Bryant, Diana Garcia, Sam Lueras, Joseph Lueras, James Garcia, Rudolph Garcia, Daniel Garcia, Ryan Kriley, Adrianna Garcia, Jaden Garcia and MaKenna Garcia; seven great-grandchildren, including Aviana Garcia, Jazmyne Garcia, Analiza Bryant, Ricky Bryant Jr., Syanna Waller, Amariah Lueras and James Garcia Jr.
Angel was preceded in death by his parents, Sixto and Teresita Garcia; two brothers, Henry and Sisto Garcia; sister Adalecia (Garcia) Salazar; his father-in-law, Bernabel Chavez; and brother-in-law Bernie Chavez.
Rosary will be recited by Matias and Josie Chavez at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008, at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008, at St. Francis de Paula Catholic Church with Father John Peterson, O.F.M., celebrant.
