Antonio "Tony" Luna Sr.

Obituary Condolences

Antonio "Tony" Luna Sr., of Alamogordo, was 79 when he passed away at his home with his family by his side Sunday, May 4, 2008, leaving his earthly home to join our Heavenly Father, our Lord Jesus Christ.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He left a great legacy while here on earth. Tony served in the Army for four years, stationed in Germany. Tony was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where he served the Lord as a communion minister, usher and greeter. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as a Grand Knight, council member, treasurer and secretary. Other clubs Tony was involved in included the Moose Lodge and VFW, where he played in pool tournaments with his deceased son, David R. Luna, aka "The Kid," as his partner.
Tony had a love for all sports and loved his Dallas Cowboys. His greatest sport of all was baseball.
All his children played baseball or softball. Through all this he was an umpire for 30-plus years. He officiated not only his children's but also his grandchildren's games, where he had no problem calling a strike or calling, "You're out!!" He officiated games for Little League, high School, Babe Ruth and Pony League. Tony traveled to umpire in Mexico, Kansas and Albuquerque, to name a few.
Our greatest memory of our dad was when he would dress as Santa for his children and grandchildren. Yet, he always had his children and grandchildren remember that Christmas was the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. The celebration always started at midnight by singing "Happy Birthday" to our Lord Jesus Christ. This was then followed by "Here Comes Santa Claus." This joyous celebration would last into the early morning. Our dad would hand out each gift individually so that all could see and share the pleasure.
We would like to thank our dad for teaching us that everything is possible with God in your prayers and heart.
Thank you Daddy - your loving wife, children and grandchildren.
