Arl Cope Jr. Obituary

Arl Lee Cope Jr., 75, of Cabot died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015.

He was born Sept. 19, 1939, in Alamogordo to the late Arl Lee Cope Sr. and Emma Marie Yarbrough Cope.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Marie Drake.

After graduating from Alamogordo High School, Arl spent four years in the Navy aboard the carrier Midway. He and Marilyn lived in Madagascar and England where Arl tracked satellites for NASA. After working telemetry jobs at Holloman Air Force Base. He bought Tularosa Cable Television and built other cable systems in New Mexico which he sold and continued to work in the Cable Industry, retiring as chief executive officer of Bufford Satellite Systems. After selling Quiznos in Jacksonville, Fla., he retired for good.

Arl is survived by his wife of 51 years Marilyn Cope; children, Arl Lee Cope III (Frances) of La Luz, Avery Cope of Phoenix, Ariz., Arletta Bledsoe (Greg) of Leesburg, Va., and Walter Cope (Virginia) of Cabot, Ark.; siblings, Carol Murdock of Wasilla, Ark., Howard Cope (Cheryl) of Wylie, Texas, Dee Cope of Alamagordo. He is also survived by sister-in-law and brother-in-law Geri and David Herrera of Tucson, Ariz., eleven grandchildren; Joshua, Anesia, Briana, Janae, and Avery Cope Jr., Taylor, Zoe , Sophie , Declan, and Molly Bledsoe, Lindsey Jones (Nathaniel), one great-grandchild Kali Cope, with another on the way, Clementine Jones and a host of nieces and nephews.

Arl's greatest joy was his kids and being grandpa and papa to his grandkids. He loved following what his nieces and nephews were accomplishing. His second joy was restoring Mustangs.
He wished for people not to smoke and he was known to walk up to a young smoker, showing them his inhaler and giving them a short lecture. He fought his lung disease with all his strength and now he doesn't have to labor for every breath. This gives us peace.

My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise found in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring you some comfort. Knowing that there is a future for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.
