Arturo C. Marquez

1943 - 2009 Obituary Condolences
Arturo C. Marquez, 65, went to be with his Lord and Savior surrounded by his family Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, at Sierra Vista Hospital in Truth or Consequences. He was born to Manuel and Bernarda Marquez, of Alamogordo. He was a lifelong resident of Alamogordo until 2006. He spent the last three years at the New Mexico Veteran's Home & Hospital in Truth or Consequences.
Art, as he was known to many, honorably served his country, the local community and his family. He graduated from Alamogordo High School in 1963. He later pursued an Associate of Arts degree from New Mexico State University.
In 1965, he enlisted in the Army and was then stationed at Wurzburg, Germany, as part of the 3rd Infantry Division. He later became a retail manager for Gibson's and then Western Auto. When he wasn't at work, his favorite hobbies included bowling, photography, studies of astronomy and, as he called it, "star gazing."
Arturo is survived by his wife, Rosario "Rosie," of Las Cruces; daughter and son-in-law Major Ronald and Regina Dunlap, of Eglin Air Force Base, Fla.; son Arthur E. Marquez, of El Paso; daughter and son-in-law Rosemary Marquez-Helm and Dave Helm, of Fayetteville, Ark.; granddaughter Devin R. Marquez, of Crestview, Fla.; and brothers Manuel and his wife, Fern Marquez, of El Paso, Gilbert and his wife, Marie Marquez, of Alamogordo, and Lencho Marquez, of Albuquerque. Other survivors include nieces and nephews, and members of the Marquez, Contreras and Duran families. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Adam; parents, Manuel and Bernarda Marquez; and his brother Benjamin Marquez.
Cremation has taken place. Catholic services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial with military honors will follow at Our Lady of the Light Cemetery in La Luz.
Flowers may be sent to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
