B-Etta Campbell Obituary

Funeral services for B-Etta Campbell, 88, of Alamogordo will be at 10 a.m., Tues., Dec. 23, 2014, in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Herb Gage officiating.
Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Jim Ray, Ed Widener, Doug Roberts, Harold Edwards, Glenn Smith and Tommy Franks serving as pallbearers.

B-Etta Wylene Campbell was born Sept. 30, 1926, in Portales, to the home of Mary (Nix) and Benjamin T. Miller and died Dec. 19, 2014, in Alamogordo. On Aug. 9, 1944 in Portales, she was married to J. D. Ray. The couple had three children prior to divorcing. In 1963, she moved to Alamogordo, where she lived until her death.

On Oct. 27, 1966 she was married to L. L. Campbell. Mr. Campbell preceded her in death in 1981.

Mrs. Campbell was a first grade teacher at Sierra Elementary School in Alamogordo for 24 years, and was a member of Kappa Kappa Iota Teachers' Fraternity. She was active as a Pink Lady in the Hospital Auxiliary. For several years she was active in the Keenagers at First Baptist Church. At the time of her death, B-Etta was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Alamogordo. Mrs. Campbell was a multi-talented lady, that enjoyed sewing and quilting, painting and gardening and canning.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol A. Widener and husband, Glenn (Ed) of Alamogordo, and Beverly Gotzinger of Twenty Nine Palms, CA; a son, Jimmy A. Ray and wife, Fatima of Las Cruces, NM; a step-daughter, Sherry Carlson of Alamogordo; 18 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; a brother, M. Lee "Hoss" Miller of Portales, NM; and two sisters, Essie Helm of Fayetteville, AR and Maxine Smith of Elida, NM. Besides Mr. Campbell, she was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, B. F. Miller, and six sisters, Opal Parker, Juanita Onstott, Mary Turner, Clara Rector, Hazel Walker and Evelyn Simpson, and by her former husband, J. D. Ray who died earlier this year.
